Difference between Roll Poly Wire, Polytape and Polyrope

Need to set up an electric fence but not sure which kind of wire, tape or rope to use? The following tips will help you in making your choice.

There are a few questions you should consider when deciding which product to use in the construction of electric fencing:
  1. What are the quality of materials like?
  2. What are the differences in price?
  3. What thickness of wire, rope or tape should I use?

All three types of fencing have the following attributes in common:
·         Use red and white coloured materials to provide high visibility and prevent accidental electric shock from contact with the electric fence
·         Are made from multiple strands of stainless steel which does not corrode easily, increasing the longevity of the fence
·         Use high quality wire that is tightly bound and woven
·         Are well designed and tested and approved by Australian farmers
·         Made to stand up to Australia’s climate conditions
·         C.E. approved and UV resistant

That tells you what things they have in common, but what are the differences? One product comes in the form of a tape, one in the form of a wire, and one in the form of a rope. But there are other differences as well:

Roll Polywire is the thinnest at just 2.3 mm thick. There are nine strands of stainless steel running through the wire, yet it is lightweight and easy to move around the farm. It is available in 200 or 500 metre spools at a cost of just AU$45 and AU$67 respectively.

Polytape comes in spool sizes of 100, 200 and 400 metres priced at AU$32, AU$42 and AU$67. Tape is 12 mm wide making coverage quick and easy, with five strands of stainless steel ensuring superb conductivity.

Polyrope is made by running six strands of stainless steel through a 4 mm wide rope. It is available in spools of 200 or 500 metres costing AU$57 and AU$117 respectively.

  1. Our creosoted posts are made from the finest Latvian Pine, then they're kiln dried and pressure treated with creosote so that it goes deep into the wood ensuring a strong and long-lasting stake.
