How to oil your shearing hand piece correctly

Oil reduces friction that is caused by the action of the blades moving in a horizontal direction during the shearing process and this is a vital action to ensure that the life and functions of the blades are not compromised in the shearing program.

The purpose of oiling is to drastically reduce wear on the moving parts of your Shearing Handpiece during the shearing season. The life of a set of blades and the general life span of yourShearing Handpiece will increase when the oiling is done often both before and during the shearing process. The motor of your Shearing Handpiece will revolve at around 2500 RPM and this action creates a lot of friction on the moving parts. The ample application of good quality oil as recommended by the supplier of the Shearing Handpiece will drastically remove this friction and because the action now becomes smoother the life expectancy of your equipment will increase.

The easiest way to effectively oil your Shearing Handpiece is to follow the following method highly recommended by a leading supplier of shearing equipment. Take the Shearing Handpiece in your hand and squirt a few drops into the hole provided on the front of the unit between the tension adjuster and comb. This oil will run the moving parts and “giggle pin “and provide them with lubrication. Turn the Shearing Handpiece around and put oil onto the cup and post which is situated behind the cutters until it runs out indicating adequate lubrication. Squirt oil over the comb and cutters of the Shearing Handpiece be loosening the tension adjuster. Turn the knob out completely; check that the sleeve is well greased, before replacing this nut. The grease will ensure and prevent this part from heating up.

The cost involved in keeping a can of oil next to shearer while working and continually oiling his equipment should be a priority. The cleaning process after a day of shearing should leave the Shearing Handpiecewith adequate oil on all moving parts as well as the blade and comb area. Any wool and debris resulting from the shearing process should be removed after and during the process. To ensure that the blades remain free of obstacles such as stones, twigs and grass constant checking on the condition of the moving parts is important.

By following this easy and quick method to oil the expensive equipment used during the shearing process the farmer will protect his equipment against damage caused by friction. The preventative action will serve to increase the life of the equipment, save money on continual blade replacement and save time during the shearing.

Taking good care of your Shearing Handpiece will result in perfect trouble free shearing.

  2. I also lined the gate with hard ware cloth. My next job will be to cover the top with chicken wire. Once that is done I will affix the back of the chicken wire to the building, block off underneath the shed from predators, and install a doggie door. Oh yeah, I will have to build nesting boxes too. fence replacement
