How to safely store your shearing clipper

At last the shearing season is over and the animals are parading around in their new outfits ready to start a new good quality growth for the next year. The yield from the shearing is packed and ready for the market. The area around the shearing operation is getting cleared and it is time to store our equipment until next year.

The storing procedure for the Shearing Handpiece is not much different from what was done during the shearing period with the exception that we will pack it safely for 12 months. It is recommended that all debris and dirt is removed and care must be taken that the vent area of the Shearing Handpiece is especially clear of any obstructions. The use of a small brush is great for brushing these items from the Shearing Handpiece before wiping the surface area of the equipment completely. The next easy routine should leave your equipment ready and serviceable for the next season.

Start by cleaning the cord from source to where it enters the Shearing Handpiece and pay extra care looking for cuts that could become a potential hazard. Bends and other damage should be located and if needed replaced or repaired. Remove the cutters and comb by loosening the screws holding them in place. Oil them on both sides which will prevent the formation of rust while in storage. The Shearing Handpiece should be held and oil poured down the front of it to ensure that the post and cup is sufficiently oiled. Oil should drip out the unit when you oil the giggle pin and the rest of the moving parts of the Shearing Handpiece. Loosen the tension adjuster and apply adequate grease into the sleeve from rust prevention and protection. Tighten the nut and wipe the complete unit down with a clean cloth.

Once all this is down open the packing case supplied with the unit, replace the manual into its slot. The comb and cutter of the Shearing Handpiece is left with some oil on their surface and placed into the slot provided. Carefully wind the cord of the unit and place in the carry case. Your unit is now ready for the next season and well-oiled to protect the equipment parts against environmental threats. Packing the equipment in its original case ensure that nothing is misplaced or lost.

Equipment well oil and cleaned before being packed away will ensure that the farmer can be assured of equipment ready to use and this will take the stress away when preparing to start a shearing season without knowing what the state of his equipment is. The preparation will also ensure a product that will years of service before needing replacement or repairs.
